Perryton ISD transportation reports new bus in service and delivery dates for additional vehicles

Perryton ISD’s transportation update noted the district has one newly acquired vehicle in service and is awaiting additional deliveries that are expected near the start of the next school year.
The transportation director said the new “Ranger” bus has been used regularly, including out-of-town trips, and had accumulated nearly 5,000 miles. District staff said they have experienced some diagnostic codes that appear to be minor and that the bus will go to Amarillo for additional checks; otherwise it has been used during the summer for student transport.
On deliveries, the director reported an estimated date of Aug. 26 for one vehicle to arrive in Lubbock, after which additional processing is required before district deployment. The director said the remaining buses likely will not be delivered until the next school year and cautioned that the Aug. 26 date could slip a week or two.
Trustees and staff described the operational benefits of two recently purchased vans, which have reduced the need to send multiple vehicles and drivers for small-group travel and have been used nearly every day.
No votes were taken on transportation items; staff said they will continue to operate the vehicles they have and maintain older buses while awaiting new deliveries.
