Perryton ISD outlines gym upgrades, banner replacement and Ranger Roundup flooring; names new director of maintenance

Perryton ISD trustees received multiple facilities and maintenance updates including athletic-facility improvements, banner replacement plans, new maintenance leadership and a scheduled flooring installation.

District leaders confirmed a new scoreboard will be installed in the high school gym and work to refresh the gym’s appearance is underway. The district removed one platform in the gym and plans to retain a single center platform with the scorers’ table at the front. Trustees discussed repainting tile at the bottom of the gym walls from a light beige to light gray to better match school colors.

Officials said banners and championship plaques that had been mounted directly on the gym wall were causing damage due to weight. The district intends to replace many of those older wall-mounted items with printed vinyl banners to preserve displays and reduce wall stress.

Ranger Roundup facility leaders reported a permanent flooring installation is scheduled for June 2. The board said the installation will be completed without interrupting normal business and that a temporary plastic covering had been used previously to limit tripping hazards.

Superintendent and trustees introduced Edgar Avila as the district’s new director of maintenance. Avila declined to offer additional details beyond confirming the scoreboard work and said he is ‘‘excited to build in some big shoes’’ and has already begun addressing facility needs.

Trustees also described broader maintenance scheduling and plans to refresh the gym before fall sports, including repainting and an updated visual layout for banners and wall displays.
