Perryton ISD trustees swear in new members and elect board officers; nominations close by acclamation

Board President West Beale called the meeting to order and noted the session had been posted under the Texas Open Meetings Act. The board administered the oath of office to newly elected trustees, with swearing words delivered in the form prescribed for Texas public officials: “I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of Perryton ISD board of trustees … and I will to the best of my ability reserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state. So help me God.”
The board then proceeded to elect officers for the coming year. West Beale was nominated and re-elected president by a 7-0 vote. The board nominated Bryce (spelling in the transcript varies between “Haley” and “Hale”) and elected him vice president by acclamation, 7-0. Jed Simons was elected secretary by acclamation, 7-0. The motions to close nominations and elect officers were carried without recorded dissension.
Trustees also assigned members to standing committees. The appraisal district representation was reassigned (Jeff and Bryce named to serve), and a three-member safety committee was confirmed with Shay, Jed and an additional trustee volunteering. The board noted the safety committee meets at least three times a year, works with law enforcement and the district safety director, approves standard operating procedures and sometimes meets in closed session for security-sensitive matters.
Before adjourning to a closed meeting, the board announced it would convene under the Texas Government Code provisions for personnel (§551.074), real property (§551.072) and attorney consultation (§551.071); no votes were taken while in closed session.
