Representatives of a community group seeking to renovate the Shirley Allen Center presented project plans and funding acknowledgments to Lima City Council.
Gwendolyn R. Lane Harvey, who identified herself as the project liaison, told council the plan will renovate 6,600 square feet of existing building and add approximately 2,100 square feet for community programming. "We will add another additional 2,100 square feet for the community, which will allow us to engage back into educational programs for our youth and our adults," Lane Harvey said. She said the renovated space will include education, health and wellness programming and opportunities for social interaction.
Lane Harvey thanked city council, the mayor and funding partners by name, including Representative Matt Huffman, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the Real Estate and Land Management office for capital-improvement funding. Several council members and attendees—many who said they had a history with the center—expressed support for the project and offered to help as it moves forward.
Ending: Council received the presentation; no vote on project legislation was recorded during the meeting. The project representatives indicated they will continue to coordinate with city staff and funders.
