City staff in Orrville worked at Depot Park on Friday, placing barricades, positioning utility trucks and replacing flowering baskets ahead of Saturday’s farmers market and Memorial Day weekend, a staff member said.
The preparations are part of the city’s routine event setup and seasonal displays. “We—re here live at Depot Park, and the street department was just here putting the barricades up for our farmer's market on Saturday, but we have the utility trucks coming in,” the staff member said. The same worker added, “we're busy even in the rain right before Memorial Day weekend.”
The staff member said the flowering baskets come from donations to the Blooming Orville program and can be contributed through the city utility bill. Flags are already up along the route the staff member described as the Memorial Day processional route, which the staff member said “will start at the VFW at the end of this road and then go all the way down the street.”
The staff member estimated the city has “over 250 flowering baskets” this season and noted different volunteer groups maintain the containers. The Depot Park area also features a train mural that the staff member credited to designer Kristen Larson. The staff member pointed out small businesses and vendors around the park, saying people were getting coffee from Sure House as crews worked.
No official actions, votes or permitting changes were discussed in the recorded remarks. The staff member said they would return later to show how the baskets are hung and that crews were continuing setup in time for weekend events.
Crews and volunteers continued hanging decorations and finishing logistics at Depot Park as the city prepared for weekend activities.
