Board members said the agreement sets fixed pricing and reimbursement terms so crews can be requested without renegotiating costs each time. An unnamed board member told the board the agreement “just adds more crews that we could potentially call on in the event of a serious disaster in Marietta.”
Speakers said Marietta has participated in mutual aid with electric membership cooperatives previously and that the agreement “cleans up the process” so crews and staff do not have to negotiate terms either before or after deployments. A motion to approve the mutual-aid agreement passed unanimously; the board recorded the vote as 6–0 in favor.
The board did not identify a dollar amount tied to the agreement during the discussion; one presenter said mutual-aid payments and participation levels remain subject to the parties’ decisions about availability and willingness to contribute.
Board members characterized the action as administrative: it formalizes expectations about pricing, reimbursement and the process for requesting outside crews during large restoration efforts. No amendments or further direction to staff were recorded at the meeting.
The agreement will be used when Marietta requests or provides support to other utilities for system restoration after storms and other widespread outages.
