Carbon County commissioners proclaim June 9–13, 2025 as Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation on June 5 recognizing June 9–13, 2025, as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week, honoring staff in the county Children and Youth Services for their work investigating abuse, supporting families and protecting children.
The proclamation, read into the record during the commissioners’ meeting, said local child-welfare staff “selflessly endeavor to protect Pennsylvania’s children, often with low pay, long hours, tremendous demands, little appreciation, great criticism, and with dramatic impacts to their personal lives.” The board voted to adopt the proclamation during the meeting (agenda item 25-260).
Jill (director of Carbon County Children and Youth Services) spoke to the commissioners by phone from a conference and thanked them for the recognition. “I apologize I can't be there. I am currently at a conference learning more about child welfare laws and regulations. But again, I really appreciate the commissioners taking the time to acknowledge our staff, our 13 caseworkers, ranging from 20 years of service to 4 months of service,” she said.
The proclamation text, read at the meeting, noted the risks child-welfare staff face while conducting investigations in homes and described the breadth of issues staff handle, including physical abuse, neglect, mental-health challenges and substance-use disorders. Commissioners and other speakers thanked caseworkers for their service during the meeting.
The resolution does not change agency duties or funding; it is an official acknowledgement adopted by the board. The proclamation and staff remarks were recorded in the meeting minutes and the board presented the adopted proclamation to County Children and Youth Services for distribution to staff.
