Grosse Ile recreation staff sets summer program dates; commission removes procurement approval from agenda

Grosse Ile — At its June 5 meeting the Community Recreation Commission heard the director’s summer program schedule, including pool and camp opening dates, and voted to remove a procurement action relating to exterior door and window purchases from the night’s agenda.
Director Zayba told commissioners hiring for summer camp counselors and lifeguards was complete and that “our pool will be officially opening up to the public June 16.” She said full-day summer camps will begin June 16 and sports camps will begin June 23; swim lesson registration is live.
Zayba also described a planned renovation: replacing corroded exterior doors for the Tipsy Fish restaurant kitchen connected to the township building. “These doors have a lot of corrosion and have warped over the years. For safety purposes, it is important we replace them,” she said. Zayba said staff received three written quotes and selected a bidder based on timeline and quality; commissioners were shown the quotes in emails and hard copies.
Separately, Jamieson noted that the township board will hear a recommendation about replacing security cameras at Centennial Farms at its June 9 meeting.
Early in the Recreation Commission meeting a motion to remove action item No. 1 — described in the agenda as “vote and approve the new exterior windowed or exterior door purchases” — was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The commission then approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from the May 1 meeting.
Commissioners also reminded residents about the Thursday evening Water’s Edge concert series beginning June 19 and reiterated the commission will not meet in July; the next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 7.
