Carson City proclaims June National Pollinator Month, mayor signs Mayor's Monarch Pledge Day

Mayor Lori Bagwell and the Board on June 5 proclaimed June 2025 as National Pollinator Month in Carson City and acknowledged the city's designation as a Bee City USA affiliate. The Board also proclaimed June 5 as Mayor's Monarch Pledge Day after the mayor signed the National Wildlife Federation pledge to support monarch butterfly conservation.
Open Space Manager Lindsay Boyer and community volunteers described ongoing pollinator efforts including a Bee City project at Carson Tahoe Health (a pollinator habitat and Serenity Trail) and a pollinator-friendly plant list the city requires developers to source at least 50% of planting from. Boyer said the list and plant selections were available online and the city is distributing native and ornamental milkweed plants to support monarchs.
Community organizers described a calendar of events, including a pollinator parade and family activities at the Nevada State Museum on June 21, a Carson Mall event with a children’s magic show and a “waggle dance” flash-mob demonstration, and library displays on pollinators. "We're really happy to be able to educate and inform and have fun along the way," said a chamber leadership volunteer who is helping organize the events.
Ending: The mayor encouraged residents to plant milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants and to visit demonstration sites such as the greenhouse pollinator habitat at Carson Tahoe Health and the Serenity Trail; several volunteers and staff received recognition during the proclamation segment.
