The department will trade in existing Glock pistols and apply a trade-in credit of $8,980 toward the purchase; the purchase price after trade-in is $15,908. City staff said the purchase will be funded from forfeiture funds.
Public Safety Director Goodwill explained the operational reason: the newer Glocks have a factory-installed mounting system that allows an optic (a red-dot sight) to be mounted at the Glock factory; the optic permits both eyes open shooting and is intended to improve accuracy. Goodwill said the change aligns with a trend in law enforcement and noted other agencies have adopted optics on duty pistols.
Councilors asked technical questions about the sight; Goodwill clarified it is a red dot in a small window and does not project onto the target. He described the feature as an “AimPoint sight” installed at the factory.
A motion to approve the purchase and to use forfeiture funds passed on a roll call vote.
