BAR approves full-frame wood replacement windows at 322 W. Piccadilly with condition to match historic trim

The Winchester Board of Architectural Review on June 5 approved an application by homeowner Kathy Faust to replace four front windows at 322 West Piccadilly Street with Marvin Ultimate double-hung wood windows, provided the installation is a full-frame tear-out and exterior trim is replicated to match existing profiles.

Faust told the board the house is 94 years old and that the first-floor stone windows have extensive water damage; storm windows are currently installed elsewhere on the house. "We'd like to replace them with Marvin wood windows," Faust said, and staff confirmed product specifications and window grid patterns were included in the packet.

During review board members asked whether the windows would be installed as inserts or as full-frame replacements. One member cautioned that using insert installations would reduce visible glass area and darken interior light, and asked that the record clarify that the applicant intends a full tear-out so that glass sizes remain the same. The board recorded the approval with the stipulation that the work be a full-frame installation and that the exterior trim be replicated. A motion to approve BAR-25-244 with those stipulations was made and seconded; the measure passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

Staff noted the packet includes product specification sheets and that the center front window is larger than the two flanking windows; the approved proposal covers four windows on the stone portion of the façade. The board asked staff to note in the approval that exterior trim be painted white and replicated where rotten members will be replaced.

The approval was taken during the new business segment for BAR-25-244; the applicant was present and provided photographs of the existing condition and the proposed window specs.
