Health and safety subcommittee reports end-of-year nurse filings, monitors clinic closure and notes suicide-awareness training

The Auburn School Committee received a health and safety update on June 4 covering end-of-year health reporting, a May 1 bus breakdown and recent mental-health initiatives.
Assistant Superintendent Scott Anier summarized the subcommittee report: nurses are completing building-level end-of-year reports that the district will compile and forward to the Maine Department of Education. The committee heard that Matt Fifield, representing the city, described his role responding to a track-bus breakdown on May 1; those reports have been filed with the appropriate agencies, Anier said.
The subcommittee is monitoring the closure of a community clinical services clinic and discussing options for regrouping and providing clinical services in the 2025–26 school year, Anier said. Corey Jamieson reported routine end-of-year social-emotional challenges and described staff efforts to support students.
Guidance lead Marybeth Galway reported suicide-awareness training has been completed at all schools; next fall the district will offer training for new staff. The subcommittee also engaged Stay for Life as a guest speaker and coordinated mental-health-awareness-month activities across buildings.
Committee members did not take a formal vote on these items; the update was informational and the subcommittee will continue follow-up work at the building and district level.
