Auburn School Committee approves consent agenda, advances two policies and tables child-care policy

The Auburn School Committee approved its consent agenda at the June 4 meeting, which included adoption of the meeting agenda, minutes of the May 21, 2025 meeting and certified contracts for Ray Arsenault at Sherwood Heights and Kylie Reynolds at Park Avenue. A motion to approve the consent agenda carried with a voice vote.

The committee approved first readings of two policies. The committee voted in favor of Policy AUB GC QC (resignation of professional staff) after adding language to require written notification when a staff member notifies the superintendent of retirement. The committee also approved Policy AUB BDE (school committee standing committees) for first reading; the policy now specifies that the school committee will set the number and makeup of standing-committee members and that only school committee members will vote on committee membership.

Members voted to send a proposed policy identified as AUB IHBAC (related to child care/age requirements in draft) back to the policy subcommittee for further work. Committee members said the district and state implementation guidance on expanding services to younger children (discussion referenced age 3 and older) is not finalized; one member noted a template from Maine School Management is not yet available and that statute changes are still pending.

Later in the evening the committee voted to enter executive session "pursuant to 1 MRSA 405(6)(A)" for the purpose of superintendent evaluation. The executive session began at 6:47 p.m.

City Council representative Adam Platt told the committee the City Council recently passed a joint procurement ordinance; the school committee has adopted a matching policy.
