The Metropolitan Development Commission on June 4 made several policy determinations tied to tax increment financing (TIF) and local redevelopment, and approved a new groundwater protection fund budget.
Abby Hansen, comptroller, explained the commission must declare the amount of excess assessed value for TIF areas by June 15 per state statute and presented Resolution 2025 E‑015, which "states that there is no excess assessed value to pass through to the base and provides myself, as the treasurer of the MDC, the ability to modify this original determination," Hansen said. She noted final assessed values are certified June 30, final determinations come in July and are used during the city's 2026 budget process; the final determinations will be made by August 1, she said.
