The Annapolis Finance Committee on June 4 recommended accepting a $67,002.50 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to support the city’s Maryland Smart Energy Communities work, including LED streetlight conversion and HVAC-to-heat-pump projects.
"The Maryland Energy Administration has provided a grant of $67,002.50 to the city of Annapolis to provide funding for costs associated with the Maryland Smart Energy Communities Project," Jake Trudeau, budget manager, read from the staff explanation. The grant requires a minimum 15% local match; Trudeau said that match will come from the city facility improvements capital project (CIP).
Aldermen asked why the award was listed under the mayor’s office in the paperwork; staff said the grant is administered under the city manager’s office and that the header on the grant paperwork was incorrect and will be corrected. Staff also confirmed the public-works and resilience staff are coordinating implementation.
Committee members raised no substantive objections. A motion to give a favorable recommendation to SA 33 25 passed by voice vote.
The appropriation will offset city costs associated with LED streetlight conversion and HVAC heat‑pump replacement projects and obligates the 15% match from the specified CIP source.
