The Waukesha Common Council on June 3 issued a proclamation designating July as Park and Recreation Month and highlighted the city’s park system and programs.
The proclamation noted the city maintains roughly 100 acres of parkland, 12 miles of trails, sports fields, outdoor pools and numerous volunteer hours supporting parks and recreation programming. City speakers said the parks department partners with other organizations to provide thousands of summer meals and volunteer hours; they encouraged residents to use park facilities and participate in summer programming.
Separately during referrals and announcements, councilors made several nonbinding requests to staff: a feasibility analysis for a crosswalk on Niagara near Woodman’s, a referral to Buildings and Grounds to consider removing parking restrictions in neighborhoods east of the University of Waukesha now that the university is closed, and a referral to implement a child-with-disabilities area on Magnolia. Alderman Rick Lemke and Alderperson Piper said they would collaborate on a parking referral that could extend to District 4 and West End.
The proclamation was read during the meeting and no separate formal vote was recorded in the transcript. The referrals were made by councilors for staff review and potential future action.
