Organizers also announced the Rose Brooks cake auction, a long-running fundraiser held for scholarships. A speaker identified Rose Brooks as marking her 46th year running the cake auction and asked residents to attend the auction on June 19 at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church to support scholarships for San Marcos High School graduates.
Other events listed by speakers and organizers include a Juneteenth 5K Freedom Run on the San Marcos City Park Trails (8–10 a.m.) and a Juneteenth celebration at Dunbar Recreation Center on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Presenters said the celebration will include speakers, food, music and community activities.
City Manager Stephanie Ritz stood with the mayor as the proclamation was presented and community leaders from the Juneteenth Committee, Dunbar Association and other local groups accepted the recognition.
