Staff said they plan an amendment to the 2024 grant to shift part of the orthophotography project currently paid by the NG9‑1‑1 grant to the land-information strategic grant so the NG9‑1‑1 funds can be used for hydrology and other work. They also described ongoing work to code contract charges more clearly and to maximize NG9‑1‑1 grant eligibility for projects that directly help emergency dispatch.
Committee members asked about stable funding for a GIS technician. Staff said the county would need a more stable funding source than one‑time grants before hiring a permanent position; they noted NG9‑1‑1 and other grants could temporarily pay contract work and that state land-information grants may change in coming budget cycles. A job description had been submitted and was under grading review; staff said background-check language was now included in job descriptions as part of a recent wage-study update.
Staff described several proposed 2026 projects, including hydrology/watershed layers and lidar, and asked committee members for suggestions. County staff also mentioned that survey-marker and PLSS corner references are now more accessible to surveyors after a broken link was fixed.
No formal vote was taken to create a new permanent position; the committee directed staff to continue pursuing grant funding and to return when funding sources and job-grade information are available.
