Bledsoe described more than 40 years in education, including classroom teaching in Saginaw, Michigan, and service as an elementary and K–8 principal. She said she served as a guest teacher in Nakuru, Kenya, and was selected by Saginaw Valley State University and the Gerstacker Foundation to a 12-member leadership cadre that studied literacy and education at local, state, regional and international levels. The cohort’s capstone, she said, included travel to K–12 and postsecondary institutions in Taiwan, China and Japan.
“For the past 10 years, I served as a literacy consultant,” Bledsoe told commissioners. “I work for HMH, otherwise known as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.” She said she wants to ensure the county library system “remains fiscally responsible, forward thinking” and that she would bring a “balanced perspective that supports innovation while safeguarding the financial sustainability of a library system.”
The public comment period closed after Bledsoe’s remarks; no formal action on the vacancy was recorded in the meeting transcript. The committee proceeded to other agenda items.
