Lamar — The Lamar City Council on June 3 approved a consent agenda covering minutes, bills and licensing items and adopted three separate rezoning ordinances affecting multiple parcels, the council said during its regular meeting.
The council unanimously approved the consent items listed on the agenda, which the meeting materials described as: approval of the May 19 special town hall meeting minutes and May 20 regular meeting minutes; a list of bills for the period ending May 31, 2025; fire rescue personnel salaries for fiscal year 2026; a resolution granting cigarette permits (roll-call vote required); an urban revitalization tax-exemption request; a renewal of a liquor license for Chicks Chicken and Waffles; and a five-day liquor license for Wise Eye Brewing Company and a mobile vendor identified as Lucky Wife wine slushies.
In land-use votes, council members approved second readings, waived third readings and adopted the following ordinances by roll call:
• Ordinance 996 — Dogwood Fourth Edition: rezoning from AG (agricultural) to R-1 (single-family residential). Council recorded unanimous yes votes and carried the ordinance.
• Ordinance 997 — Dogwood Fifth Edition: rezoning from AG (agricultural) to R-1A (medium-density residential). Council recorded unanimous yes votes and carried the ordinance.
• Ordinance 998 — PT Lot 3 (identified in materials as Parcel A, Fulton’s/Holden Subdivision; Parcel ID noted as 1217401036): rezoning from I-3 (heavy industrial) to B-2 (general business). Council recorded unanimous yes votes and carried the ordinance.
Each ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call votes during the meeting. The clerk read roll-call affirmations for each item and the mayor or presiding officer announced the motions carried.
The meeting minutes show no public comments on the three rezoning items during the ordinance hearings, and administration recommended approval for each rezoning application.
Looking ahead, the newly adopted zoning classifications change the development potential for the listed parcels and clear the way for residential and commercial development under the newly adopted zoning designations.
