Board reviews AIG draft plan; formal approval scheduled for next meeting

Lenoir County Public Schools presented a draft Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) plan on June 2 for the board nd public to review. The presenter noted the plan is submitted every three years under state requirements and that the board would be asked to approve the plan at the next meeting.
The presentation cited statutory rationale and the North Carolina AIG program standards as the statewide framework that guides identification and service models for gifted students. Staff provided the board with the draft AIG plan, the statewide program standards and a summary document highlighting essential updates.
"This plan is submitted for board study, and I will seek approval of the plan at the next board meeting," the presenter said, noting the district had included updates and supporting material for the board's review.
Board members were invited to submit questions to staff over the next month; staff indicated they would be available to discuss details prior to the action item return.
