Sulphur City Council on June 2 approved a rezoning ordinance to change 2910 East Napoleon Street from business to commercial to permit a new lease tenant. The council adopted the ordinance and approved a small amendment to the lease language governing shuttle-bus routing.
Matt Redd, speaking on behalf of the project proponent, said the executed lease requires shuttle buses to be kept on state highways within city limits and specifically referenced Highway 2790 and Highway 108. “We put that in the lease that was executed last week,” Redd told the council. He asked the council to add an additional roadway — identified in the hearing by the speaker as Bayless — to the lease routing language so drivers would have an alternate route when morning traffic makes Highway 108 congested.
Councilmembers moved and seconded the ordinance and the amendment; roll-call votes recorded Councilmembers Abshire, Thomas, Ellinger and Hardy voting yes. A councilmember thanked Mr. Phipps for his contributions to the community during the public hearing.
