Select Board approves notice of intent for $1 million DOER Decarbonization Accelerator grant

The Acton Select Board unanimously approved a notice of intent on June 2 to apply to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) for a Climate Leader Communities Decarbonization Accelerator grant, a program that can provide up to $1 million to help advance decarbonization projects.
Town staff said Acton was recognized as a Climate Leader by the Commonwealth and is eligible for the larger grant opportunity to support major energy projects. The town plans to target the grant toward a large portion of an HVAC project the town expects to bid later this fiscal year; staff said the design work is already under way using ARPA and energy-efficiency funds. Town staff also noted the town and the regional school district have historically collaborated on green community grants but that the school district recently pursued a separate $500,000 grant opportunity.
The motion to approve the notice of intent was moved and seconded; the board voted unanimously to authorize filing the notice and to permit signatures on the application. Town staff recognized Lauren West, the town's sustainability analyst, for her leadership on the application.
No grant award had been announced at the June 2 meeting; the board authorized filing a notice of intent as the first step in applying for the state grant program.
