Hospitals seek special-assessment resolution hearing July 1; board schedules public hearing

County Attorney David Minter explained the hospitals are seeking to finalize an assessment rate before possible federal budget changes could lock in a different formula. The county’s action will simply schedule the hearing; no assessment was adopted at the June 3 meeting.
Why it matters
County staff said hospitals use a local special-assessment mechanism, in part, to underwrite Medicaid-related reimbursement strategies. Because federal budget action — and the timing of those decisions — could affect the return hospitals receive under the program, hospital representatives asked the county to schedule a hearing before the July 4 congressional calendar deadlines.
Board action
Commissioner Zalick moved to set a public hearing for July 1 at 10 a.m.; Commissioner Stone seconded. The board approved the scheduling unanimously.
Ending
County staff will publish required notices and bring the proposed assessment resolution to the July 1 hearing; interested parties may attend or submit comments as required by statute.
