Emily Peters, a Woburn resident, addressed the committee during public comment asking the district to consider locating an Early Childhood Program (ECP) classroom at the high school. Peters said Hayes/Reeves currently serves 47 ECP students and argued a high-school location could host a full-time ECP classroom at lower retrofit cost than modulars and allow a shared playground project that would serve both schools.
Peters cited examples from Burlington and other communities where high-school-based ECPs operate successfully and suggested high-school students could participate as aides. She noted that Reeves will lose space this year (an office and part of a closet slated for ECP use) and that retrofitting will cost money, but argued retrofitting would be cheaper and less controversial than modulars. Peters asked the committee to consider the “bigger picture” of relieving stress on staff, students and families. Committee members moved and passed a motion to include her submitted materials in the official minutes.
