Police Accountability Board schedules outreach, reviews complaints and refers supervisor‑response training to ACC

The Calvert County Police Accountability Board on Aug. 20, 2025, approved its agenda, announced three community outreach sessions and reviewed complaint totals from Jan. 1 to May 13, 2025, telling attendees that eight complaints were received in that period and seven were reviewed by the Administrative Charging Committee (ACC).
The board announced outreach events co‑hosted with the ACC: Wednesday, July 16 (Calvert Library), Wednesday, July 23 (Southern Branch Library) and Wednesday, Aug. 6 (Twin Beach Branch Library). The chair said board members, ACC representatives and members of the sheriff’s office will attend. “If you’re able to come to any of them, you’re welcome to come,” the chair told the meeting.
On complaints, the chair reported that of eight complaints received through May 13, seven were reviewed by the ACC and one was not eligible for ACC review because it fell under another agency’s jurisdiction or did not involve a citizen. At the time of the meeting four complaints were pending ACC review; one case had resulted in administrative charges. The chair said the ACC suggested breaking complaints down by patrol district for future trending analyses; the sheriff’s office provided district map data for that purpose.
The PAB reported vacancies: two current vacancies on the board, two recent resignations, two open renewals for the ACC due in July, and one trial‑board term that ends in August. Members said application details and renewals have been posted on the county website.
The board also presented a recommendation to the ACC: reinforce training for deputies on Policy 1‑906f (Police‑Citizen Encounters), specifically to ensure deputies inform citizens when a supervisory deputy is requested and, when practicable, to dispatch a supervisor or explain why one is not available. The sheriff’s office responded in the meeting that supervisors generally work from the three districts, that supervisors attempt to respond when available and that deputies will notify a complainant if a supervisor is not immediately available. The sheriff told the board that citizens always retain options to file a complaint with the sheriff’s office or this board if they feel mistreated.
The PAB’s trending subcommittee said it has been meeting and compiling a live trends document to present in August; members asked for community feedback at outreach events and suggested including a short survey to solicit community priorities for trending analysis.
The board approved the meeting agenda and later adjourned by unanimous voice vote; no roll‑call vote tallies were recorded in the transcript. The next two quarterly meetings were scheduled for Aug. 27, 2025, and December 2025.
