Euless honors public-works employee of the month and awards life-saving medals to five officers

The City of Euless recognized municipal employees and public-safety personnel at its May 27 meeting. Samuel Christie, a secretary in the Public Works Department, was named employee of the month for June 2025. The council also acknowledged Parks & Community Services general manager Chris Thames for 25 years of service and presented life-saving awards to five Euless Police Department officers for an April 2025 incident in which officers removed a wounded individual from a hotel bathtub and provided immediate life-saving care.
Mayor (presenting the employee award) introduced Samuel Christie and asked him to introduce family members in the audience. Christie, who the presenter said completed basic coursework at Tarrant County College and holds TCIC/NCIC and Municipal Jailer certifications as well as CPR and notary credentials, said of an older photo on display, "that was me 210 pounds ago." City staff described Christie as a "team player" who responded to a downed power-line emergency near a grocery store and has completed a range of trainings the city values.
The council also recognized Chris Thames, general manager at the Parks at Texas Star and Parks & Community Services, for 25 years with the city and 32 years in the industry. Staff noted Thames's professional awards from the United States Specialty Sports Association and his induction into the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2023.
Police Chief Landers presented life-saving awards to Senior Corporal Titus Varghese and Officers Gloria Lozano, Josh Bennett, Jacob Hanson and LaDonna Bunnell for an April 2025 response to a hotel room where an individual had attempted self-harm and had multiple wounds. Chief Landers described watching body-camera footage of the event: "The officer's swift and decisive action, teamwork, and adherence to their training contributed to saving the individual's life." He described officers using a ballistic shield, securing the subject and then applying a tourniquet and direct pressure until paramedics arrived.
Mayor commented, "we truly have the best law enforcement that there is anywhere on this planet," praising the officers and noting they chose to work in Euless. The award citation read that the officers' conduct "ensured a successful and life saving outcome" and that each recipient will receive a certificate and a medal they may wear on their uniform for their careers.
These items were ceremonial and did not require council votes beyond consent to the agenda that included minutes and other routine actions.
