Staff said they rejected some proposals that relied on aggressive chemical treatments because those can cause fish kills and other environmental harm. Trustees discussed alternatives including dredging ponds to increase depth; staff said deeper excavation is substantially more expensive, involves lengthy permitting and requires on‑site handling of removed material, so it is not the preferred near‑term option.
The board approved the contract and the BioPod purchase; staff noted an annual opt‑out clause in the three‑year contract should the township choose a different approach later.
