Administration reports: new deputy treasurer named; building-permit fee revisions and summer projects scheduled

Council heard that Sheila Wood was hired as deputy treasurer and “started about a week ago,” according to the finance office report. The mayor and department heads also said the city is preparing end-of-month submissions from departments and that the CIC basic audit was released for publication.
The Building & Lands committee will meet Monday, June 2 at 7 p.m. to consider two agenda requests read into the record: A25-21, a Chapter 1105.17 ordinance revision to clear state-required fees for planning commission submittals, and A25-22, a modification to various permit fees to align with other local jurisdictions in Lorain County. The clerk noted the last wholesale adjustment to building permit fees occurred in March 2013.
The mayor reported on several upcoming public-works matters: a railroad-related project and wall work near the area across from Doc Watson’s Market, anticipated coordination with FirstEnergy on a new substation on Dewey Road that could shorten planned outages, and the city’s regular road program and OPWC bids, which are being opened next week. City staff urged contractors to minimize disruptions and noted an intent to schedule work during the school summer break where feasible.
City officials also said the police department is updating its civil service list and recruiting new officers; application materials remain available at the mayor’s office. The council accepted the administration reports by motion and voice vote.
The Building & Lands committee chair (Councilmember Janek) called the committee meeting for June 2 at 7 p.m. to consider the listed permit fee matters.
