Council grants malt license and video‑lottery authorization for Suite B at 318 Second Street

The Brookings City Council approved a new on/off sale malt liquor license and local authorization for video lottery machines at 318 Second Street Suite B, allowing the business to add a second gaming suite adjacent to an existing pub.

City Clerk Bonnie Foster said the location and layout meet state law requirements. The applicant, John Shune, plans to add a new suite in the southwest corner of the property; the local authorization allows up to 10 video lottery machines although the physical space currently accommodates six. Foster explained the license will be issued for the capacity the applicant actually installs when the business pays renewal fees.

Councilmember Tiltonburn asked whether this was the final available authorization for video lottery machines in the city; Bonnie Foster confirmed it was the last authorization available locally.

Council approved the malt license and the video‑lottery authorization by roll call. Final site compliance and any required building permits or setback verifications remain the applicant’s responsibility through the Community Development and Building Permit process; Foster noted state‑level final authorization for video lottery rests with the Department of Revenue.
