Chief Erickson told the council the department expects an initial education phase before stricter enforcement, and that permitted activities such as fireworks and council-authorized special events would not violate the new restrictions if they occur within existing ordinance timeframes. "Education's gotta be our primary goal. Once education has been done, then... we have more enforcement rules at that point," Chief Erickson said.
Mayor and council members moved and seconded approval; members voted by voice and the motion carried.
The ordinance moves Lennox toward more defined noise controls while preserving existing carve-outs for permitted fireworks and council-authorized events. City staff said they will monitor operations to determine the start of enforcement and plan public education about the new rules.
The council did not identify a specific enforcement start date during the meeting; Chief Erickson and staff said timing will be coordinated once education efforts are complete.
