College Station ISD board approves Dawn Newton as principal of Rock Prairie Elementary

College Station Independent School District trustees on May 27 approved a new administrator contract for Dawn Newton to serve as principal of Rock Prairie Elementary School.

The superintendent recommended the hire during a special workshop. "In accordance with the board policy, DC Local and CSISD Board of Trustees has final authority in hiring of administrators," Superintendent Schoolsby said when presenting the recommendation. The board approved the recommendation on a motion by Dr. Payne, seconded by Miss Simmon; the motion carried, 7-0.

The superintendent’s presentation said Newton has longstanding ties to the district and school leadership experience. The presentation noted she "has been in College Station 21 Years of '22," and described her as a "5 year AP" currently serving at Southwood Valley. The board did not provide additional biographical details during the meeting.

After the vote, Dawn Newton addressed trustees and attendees, saying, "I'm just really excited to be at Rock Prairie, to join the Wrangler family, to love on those kids and support them as they grow." She also thanked family in the room, mentioning her husband, Josh Newton, and her two sons, Cameron and Cade.

The item was brief: the superintendent presented the recommendation, the board moved and seconded the motion, and trustees voted unanimously to approve issuance of a new administrator contract. The board recessed shortly afterward for a scheduled training session.
