Pam (county staff) said the county had permission to apply and had submitted an application to the governor’s office for funds to cover items that may be expensive in a capital prosecution, including expert witnesses, prosecutor and court personnel costs, jury summons and related postage. Pam said the county requested funding because such trials can be expensive and she cited a prior instance when similar assistance prevented a severe budget impact following the deaths of local prosecutors.
“...the most expensive thing is the expert witnesses because those could just drain the county,” Pam said. The application is under review and the county is awaiting approval.
