Parent urges Burleson ISD to strengthen IEP, FERPA compliance and ADHD supports

“From discrepancies in the implementation of his IEP to concerns regarding FERPA compliance, I have repeatedly sought resolution through proper channels, yet meaningful action has been slow,” said Lauren Weidick, who identified herself as a parent. Weidick said students with ADHD face barriers to receiving accommodations and warned that inconsistent implementation and exclusionary disciplinary practices can push students out of school.
Weidick cited national statistics in the course of her remarks — noting that “1 in 5 children in the US have learning and thinking differences like ADHD” and that a large share of students classified under other health impairments have ADHD — and urged the board to prioritize staff training and the full implementation of IEPs. She asked the board to take “proactive steps” and to work collaboratively with parents in ensuring promised supports are delivered.
Board members did not issue a response during the public‑comment period. Weidick did not identify specific students or staff by name or cite particular documents in the public comment; she said she had pursued remedies through the district’s established channels prior to speaking to the board.
The parent’s remarks were made during the public‑comment portion of the May 12 meeting and did not result in formal board action during that session. The speaker asked for more staff training, faithful implementation of IEPs, and adherence to FERPA protections for student records.
