Juneteenth Houston unveils citywide "Crowns of Liberation" jubilee with June programming

“Juneteenth Houston is a citywide collaborative,” Nichols said, directing attendees to the project website, juneteenthhouston.org, for full program details. The initiative will bring together seven historic Black neighborhoods — called “The Villages” — each with its own tent and programming at a festival on June 1, and will lead into Juneteenth observances in mid-June and on June 19.
The announcement included event details, cultural programming and community partnerships. Mayor John Whitmire said he was “very brief because we are here on a special occasion, a point in our history that we can never allow society to forget,” and praised organizers for coordinating the citywide effort.
