Library staff reported that the strategic-plan public survey was open for three weeks and produced 92 responses. The director said staff and the strategic-plan committee will review the responses and public comments, refine draft goals and present an updated document to the board in June with the intention of adopting a five-year strategic plan thereafter.
Board members discussed whether the plan should be strictly five years or flexible, concluding that while the plan will guide focal points and evaluation over five years, the board and staff retain the ability to revisit and adjust priorities if mission-critical issues arise. Trustees and staff emphasized the importance of staff buy-in and periodic review (for example annual check-ins) to measure progress and make course corrections.
Board members asked whether the survey responses aligned with the staff’s proposed goals; staff said they generally did but that some priorities will be refined after committee review of comments and data. No formal vote was required; staff said the committee will return a revised plan in June for the board’s consideration and adoption.
