Revere reports low communicable disease burden; lifesavers lead class scheduled

Buck reported the department’s recent case counts, saying there have been “16 confirmed cases of influenza, 15 confirmed, and 2 probable cases of coronavirus.” She also reported “1 case of measles,” noting that the measles case reflected a close contact from an international flight rather than local transmission.
Buck cited a May 14 update from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, saying that the CDC report shows “a remarkable 27 percent decrease in predicted drug overdose deaths” comparing a February 2004 period with an earlier period; Buck noted Massachusetts had not yet released 2024 overdose data and that she would provide a local update once state figures are published.
Buck also announced a Lifesavers Lead class for home fire safety and hands‑only CPR to be held Thursday, June 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Revere High School’s Learning Commons. The class will be offered in English and Spanish, with childcare available; Buck directed interested residents to the Revere public health website for registration.
