At its May 21, 2025 meeting the Historic Design and Review Commission took the following formal actions:
- Approval of minutes: The commission moved to approve the meeting minutes from May 7, 2025. A roll-call vote recorded several ayes and an abstention; after discussion a commissioner changed a previously cast vote to a nay and the chair agreed the minutes as recorded remain approved. The commission discussed protocol for adding informational items (an ITC briefing) and whether that should be handled as a public work session.
- Consent agenda: The commission approved consent agenda items 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 with staff stipulations. The staff noted voicemail and letter comments had been received for one consent item. The addresses on consent that were approved and need no further appearance were: 115 West Kings Highway; 2611 North Main; 905 Dolorosa; 238 Lovera; 1231 South Alamo; 116 Callahan; and 517 Wicks. Staff will email certificates of appropriateness or commission action letters within 10 days.
- Case outcomes (pulled items and full hearings): • Case 2025108462, 3462 Mary Louise Drive — Approved with staff and additional stipulations (match existing 1-over-1 windows on west elevation, reuse removed windows, reincorporate removed stone on front elevation, use tile roof per hip-roof drawing, provide distinguishing stone-band detail); motion carried by roll call. • Case 20251163624, Broadway (parking sign) — Approved as a monument sign not to exceed 6 feet in height and 50 square feet total; internal illumination allowed only if it complies with the Unified Development Code (no glare and illumination ≤ 6 lux at the property boundary). Reface of existing parking panel approved only if it omits business logo/branding; motion carried by roll call. • Case 20251221914, 1914 West Kings Highway — Commission adopted staff recommendations: wholesale replacement of all wood windows was not approved; historic tax certification was approved; administrative approvals allowed for replacement of specific windows determined beyond repair, and for custom door replacements and exploratory siding removal to inform administrative action; motion carried by roll call (two no votes recorded).
All formal approvals are subject to staff confirmation, required permits, and submission of any revised drawings or documentation requested by staff.
