Parks director pushes pool restorations and Cody Park improvements; lights and bleacher shade are on the five-year list

Director Steve Grant and deputy Brian Bailey described a two‑phase indoor-pool restoration: 2025 work addressed electrical upgrades and immediate pool-area repairs; a second phase will address pump-room components (valves and piping) and potentially the pool-deck surface if budget allows. Staff also plan a pool-area painting and caulking program to address long‑deferred maintenance.
Staff said the community-center equipment refresh began this year with new fitness equipment and will continue with a phased five‑year replacement of weight-room and cardio items. Other community‑center needs include replacing banquet chairs and round tables (staff plan composite tables for durability) and replacing a floor scrubber that staff described as very old and increasingly unsafe to operate.
On parks, staff described Havens Trail work completed this year and said a final asphalt section remains; funds earmarked for 2026 will finish remaining trail construction. For Cody Park, staff put lighting for the basketball court on the five‑year list (target 2028) and have already added shade structures between pickleball courts. Staff noted the city had directed a fence fix for the south end of the Cody Park courts to keep balls in play and that it was completed.
Grant said the proposed schedule reflected priorities discussed at the commission’s goal‑setting session and that the commission can reprioritize projects during the all‑day budget session if they prefer to pull items forward (for example, lighting) or push others back.
