DMV Chief Business Officer Lee Scott said the fee had been collected through December 2023 and that the department had raised roughly $36 million to date; the proposed reauthorization would produce an estimated $7 million annually to offset about $59–$60 million of vehicle‑registration DXP costs.
LAO analyst Rachel Ehlers and Department of Finance staff said the fee would help but not close the Motor Vehicle Account’s structural shortfall, which LAO estimated at roughly $70 million. "This will help... but the overall structural gap is still there and will still need attention," Ehlers said.
No public comment was offered on the item and the committee asked for follow‑up budget analyses.
