Harlandale ISD swears in trustees and elects Norma Cavazos board president

Four trustees were sworn into office and the board reorganized leadership at a Harlandale ISD meeting.
The district administered the oath of office for trustees elected to single-member districts: Juan Mancha (Single Member District 1), Erica Salazar (Single Member District 2), Louie G. Luna (Single Member District 3) and Norma Cavazos (Single Member District 4). Each took the oath to "faithfully execute the duties" of the office as required by state law during the public meeting.
After the oaths, trustees held nominations and votes for board officers. Norma Cavazos was nominated for and elected board president; members recorded their support by raised hands and the public transcript records the vote as carrying with four affirmative votes. Becky Reese was elected vice president and Erica Salazar was nominated and recorded as secretary for the purposes of the meeting; the board clerk clarified nominations for the office of secretary will be brought at the next regular board meeting for formal action, but that Salazar would serve as secretary for the present meeting.
The board also nominated and approved a candidate to represent the district for a regional trustees association endorsement (TASB Region 20 position D); Louie Luna was nominated and the motion to endorse him carried.
Trustees spoke briefly after reorganization: Juan Mancha thanked the Harlandale community for its support, saying they would continue to work together on district priorities.
The reorganization and swearing-in were completed without reported contest at the meeting, and the board moved on to other agenda items.
