District outlines Riverview HVAC timeline, Safe Routes sidewalk and summer maintenance

District facilities staff gave the board a multi-part update on building maintenance and planned projects, including sidewalk work funded through Safe Routes to School, gym-floor refinishing, classroom conversions and the Riverview HVAC replacement design timeline.
Facilities director (identified in discussion as Jesse) said Riverview will get expanded sidewalks to the south toward Fifth Street North under Safe Routes funding and noted a range of maintenance items across district buildings, from new carpeting to masonry repairs. He said two classrooms will be reconfigured for a preschool/age 18-22 program with separate outside access and a separation door (the door will not lock), and that maintenance work on the Riverview maintenance shed, cameras near fuel pumps and other site-specific items are planned this summer.
On the Riverview HVAC replacement, Jesse outlined the schedule presented to the board: complete design development and narrative by the end of the fiscal year (June), assemble a budget within two to three weeks after that, produce construction drawings in early September, solicit bids in late September and seek bid approvals at the October regular meeting. The project would be phased with major construction anticipated in summer 2026.
Board members also discussed gym-floor refinishing and equipment staging for projects that will require coordination with school schedules. No formal approvals were requested at the meeting; staff said construction phasing and final budgets would be presented later this year.
