Resident raises concern about water emergency alerts after boil-water notice

Summary
A resident said she learned about a recent boil-water notice only after encountering disruptions and said the city's website and contact form did not provide timely alert options.
At the council's public comment period on May 19, resident Abigail Gautreaux told the council she learned about a recent boil-water notice too late and could not find information about alert signups on the city website.
"I didn't know. It started on Wednesday, and I found out Thursday morning when I drove through McDonald's and couldn't get a Coke," Abigail Gautreaux told the council, describing how she became aware of the advisory. She added that when her water was shut off at night the prior month she received no advance notice and that her emailed inquiry to the city's website contact form went unanswered for two weeks.
Gautreaux asked whether the city has a plan to send targeted text or email alerts to affected customers, and suggested that the city should not require residents to opt in to receive health-and-safety alerts. Council members and staff replied that they would speak with her after the meeting to follow up.
The council took no formal action on the comment at the meeting; staff acknowledged the concern and indicated they would follow up with the resident.
