North Polk construction report: CTE wing nearing completion; baseball/softball fields and auxiliary work ongoing

Construction manager Garrett and other staff described ongoing site work: paving and concrete pours delayed by rain, installation of classroom audio at Central and West, and ongoing punch‑list items. The board was told the CTE welding booths required a design change: the district had previously approved $99,000 for welding booths and associated equipment, but filtration and structural requirements required a $137,000 figure to replace the earlier number — an increase of roughly $38,000 to provide self‑contained filtration arms and stronger booths to accommodate overhead filtration systems.
At the baseball and softball complex, turf testing was completed per specifications and staff reported the concession building is near completion with painting, electrical fixtures and interior trim work remaining. Concrete sidewalk pours have been delayed by wet conditions; contractors told the board they expect two to three days of prep and pours once the site is appropriately dried. Scoreboard installations have been delayed by wind and site conditions; staff said scoreboard hardware is on site but crews are waiting for suitable weather and ground conditions to install.
Board members and staff discussed coordination with state reviewers and project engineers to avoid future cost escalation on similar projects; administrators said recent pricing for a final structural tie was lower than anticipated following design adjustments and that the team aimed to document lessons learned to help other districts. No formal board action was required for the update; staff said they will continue providing progress reports and will notify the board of any change orders requiring approval.
