Board approves transfer-space list, small roof warranty change and REI contract for Maiden High roof work

At the May 19 meeting the Catawba County Board of Education approved several facilities and operations items: the proposed student transfer spaces for 2025–26, a construction change directive adding a 20-year roof warranty for the Ball Street Elementary preschool project, and an individual project agreement with REI Engineers for partial roof replacement at Maiden High School.

Dan Moore presented the proposed student transfer spaces and emphasized that transfer capacity “ebbs and flows” through the summer; the district will begin processing transfer requests June 2 and coordinate with principals to accommodate incoming enrollments. The board approved the proposed transfer spaces unanimously.

Moore also asked trustees to approve Construction Change Directive No. 1 for the Ball Street Elementary preschool project to add a 20-year no-dollar-limit warranty for the roof system at a cost of $1,057. He said the project has a $10,000 contingency and approval would leave $8,943 available. The board approved the directive unanimously.

For Maiden High School, Moore requested approval of an individual project proposal agreement with design consultant REI Engineers Inc. to prepare construction documents and provide construction administration for partial metal-roof replacement resulting from an earlier improper installation. The contract totals $143,334 (about $85,000 for contract documents and $58,334 for construction administration). Trustees approved the agreement by unanimous vote.

All three measures were approved by show of hands; the board did not record individual roll-call tallies in the public portion of the meeting.
