Dr. Willie and consultant Nicole Young of Lisonbee Miller told the board the acquisition would create better options for entrances and exits away from the current access points, which could otherwise channel future traffic past North Middle School. "Before, you were almost certain to have to have a light... those access points just weren't great," Young said, explaining that added land gives more flexibility for sight lines and placement of entrances. Dr. Willie said short-term projects likely to use the new access include a middle-school outdoor athletic facility; she also noted the site could support an eventual elementary school or, technically, a second high school in the very long term.
The nut of the discussion centered on access, topography and near-term use. Administration showed a map of roughly 137 district acres at Pink Hill (North Middle School and Early Childhood Center are located on the campus) and said much of the site is undeveloped and hilly. The newly purchased six‑acre addition sits near lower grades and would allow traffic to approach fields or facilities without routing vehicles past North Middle School’s primary lot.
Board members asked about fair market value and traffic studies. Administration said comparable residential sales were reviewed and the purchase price is within the range of comps though on the higher end; Nicole Young said more detailed traffic studies likely would be required as specific development proposals move forward.
The board approved the purchase by voice vote. Dr. Willie said the district anticipates putting the parcel into near-term use, with plans to include it among short-list projects for a future bond issue and to use it for an athletic facility or related support (emergency access, team buses, visitor parking) as projects move forward.
