The Mesco Park Zoo and Botanic Garden Advisory Board heard monthly attendance and revenue figures for May and the first five months of the year at its June meeting. Zoo staff reported 32,300 visitors in May and a five-month attendance total of 78,505. Revenue for May was $274,391.02, with a five-month total of $655,031.85.
Ben Payne, presenting the report, highlighted a strong month for retail sales. “This is a record month for the gift shop. They've got a lot of new items in there and really... pushed hard to get new stuff in there,” Payne said, noting the gift shop produced $68,911.92 in May and a five-month total of $159,323.86. Payne also reported the grill commission at $37,904.07 for May and a five-month total of $68,986.14.
Board members had no questions on the attendance and revenue figures during the public report. Minutes from the board’s April meeting were entered into the record without a formal vote after the chair asked if there were any objections.
The board did not adopt specific budget changes at the meeting; the figures were presented as part of routine operational reporting.
