The Nicollet County Drainage Authority approved the repair report for County Ditch 76A (repair report 25-011), authorizing repair work to address recent failures at a pump station that serves Middle Lake.
Public Works explained the ditch was originally established in 1948 with pumps added in 1977. The pump system currently includes two electric pumps and a tractor-mounted backup pump used during high-rain events. Staff said recent heavy rains caused water to flow alongside an overflow pipe back into the open ditch; local landowners temporarily hauled rock to slow the flow.
The repair report authorizes payment for the immediate repairs; staff characterized that work as temporary and said a more permanent, long-term solution will be required. Commissioners asked staff to return with an RFP and suggested a future board workshop to discuss long-term options for the drainage system.
Ending: The Drainage Authority approved the repair report and directed staff to proceed with a temporary repair while preparing procurement and planning for a larger, more permanent project.
