Board approves routine agenda items; charter renewal and contracts draw split votes

At its May 13 business meeting, the Leon County School Board approved several consent and action items, including policy amendments, contracts and charter matters.

The board approved changes and additions to the agenda and accepted consent items, with motions receiving unanimous support as recorded by the chair. The superintendent’s recommendation to advertise amendments to policy 7510 was approved for hearing and adoption on June 17 after discussion and a board motion; the motion passed unanimously. The board accepted the Florida Partnership for Minority and Underrepresented Student Achievement item by unanimous vote.

The board approved amendment 4 to the 12/11/2018 charter between the School Board of Leon County and the Tallahassee Classical School and later approved the charter renewal contract for the Tallahassee Classical School; both charter items were recorded as passing by a 3–1 vote. Item 19.07 (Godby High School building 400 reroof project purchase order to Jenkins Roofing Inc.) was pulled from the agenda.

The board also approved the 2025–26 annual renewal health contract between the School Board and the Leon County Department of Health in an amount not to exceed $1,496,519.76, authorizing the chair, vice chair and superintendent to sign related documents; that motion passed unanimously. During discussion the superintendent and board members noted that the health contract represents roughly a $300,000 increase over the current year and that Medicaid reimbursement may not cover the full increase, requiring use of general funds.

Votes recorded during the meeting included multiple unanimous approvals and specified 3–1 tallies for charter-related items. Where the transcript recorded a 3–1 result, those tallies are noted below; most other approvals were recorded as passing unanimously.
