Bedford planners announce August public schedule and outreach for zoning-ordinance rewrite

City planning staff told the Bedford Planning and Zoning Commission on July 24 that a multi-part public outreach schedule for a zoning-ordinance update will begin in August and include public meetings, a joint briefing with City Council, and an open house with posters and online comment tools.
Enrique, city planning staff, outlined the timeline: a regular Planning and Zoning meeting on Aug. 14; a joint Planning & Zoning and City Council briefing on Monday, Aug. 18, at Building C starting at 6 p.m. followed by an open house at 7 p.m.; and a more detailed module session on Thursday, Aug. 21. Staff said there will be a formal presentation at 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 and that the open house will be a come-and-go format. "There is a typo — it says September; it means August," Enrique said when commissioners pointed out incorrect dates in the project schedule, and staff said the document will be corrected.
Staff described outreach methods planned for the briefing and open house: informational boards and posters around the room, post-it notes or other comment methods for attendees to leave feedback, and an online interactive option for viewing posters and submitting comments. Communications staff will support an online interactive tool so residents can review materials and leave input remotely.
Commissioners were told that the Aug. 18 session will provide a broad overview of proposed changes and that the detailed "nitty-gritty" ordinance draft will be provided after the August sessions so commissioners and the public can review specifics. Staff also said the sessions will allow P&Z and council to align on direction and give the public an opportunity to comment before formal ordinance language is released.
No formal action was taken on the ordinance at the July 24 meeting; staff asked commissioners to attend the August meetings and to prepare for multiple, detailed sessions that will follow the outreach events.
